Euroradio "Joy to the World" and CBC Radio Two

Update: see this post for the 2008 "Joy to the World" broadcast on CBC Radio Two.

I've noticed over the past month that readers find this blog by using the search terms "Euroradio", "Joy to the World", "CBC Radio Christmas programming" or a similar combination of search terms. I counted 34 instances of such search terms, out of 160 unique search terms, over the past month. (In fact, readers found this blog using 340 unique search terms during the past month, but I got tired of counting after looking at 160 search terms.) Clearly, there's quite a lot of interest from CBC Radio Two listeners in CBC Radio Two's plans for Christmas day programming.

Yet, when you go to the CBC Radio Two site, there's nothing to be found for Christmas day programming. Under the "Concert Calendar" link for December 25 there is only a statement that the "schedule is pending". A search of the CBC site for "euroradio" results only in references to the 2007 programming (and CBC Radio Two's contribution to that program left much to be desired). This causes one to wonder what CBC Radio Two is planning for Christmas day which, after all, is only two weeks away.

So, in the spirit of public service, I sent an e-mail to ask CBC Radio Two whether the Euroradio "Joy to the World" program would be carried by CBC Radio Two this year. I sent my question on Tuesday via the "Contact Us" link and, as of today, Thursday Dec. 11, have not received a reply.

C'mon, CBC Radio Two, don't leave us in the dark! Let us know what's being planned for Christmas day! Or will CBC Radio Two be the Grinch that stole "Joy to the World" from CBC Radio Two listeners?

Contact CBC Radio Two at the "Contact Us" link if you want to know what CBC is planning for Christmas day.

Hi, I write the Radio 2 blog, and thought I'd comment with some info. The EBU Christmas Day programming is on Dec. 21st, hosted by Peter Togni. This info went out in the weekly Radio 2 Newsletter, which tends to have info in advance of the website. You can subscribe to it through the CBC membership centre on the website. It's also been mentioned in passing on the blog, but posts will be going up about it soon. The full holiday programming schedule goes up on the website Monday Dec 15th, subject to revisions. (Radio being what it is, things can change!) I hope that this is of some help. Li Robbins

Thanks, James, for raising the question about the EuroRadio broadcast, and thanks, Li for posting the info. I was afraid when James' site turned up as a top hit via Google for the 2008 broadcast (rather than CBC) that CBC would indeed be a grinch.
Seems like this is info that shouldn't be limited to the Radio 2 newsletter, especially for folks like us whose listening has diminished since the programming changes to, frankly, Tom Allen's morning program. But we're looking forward to Joy to the World!

I've been listening to the annual Joy to the World broadcast for years, and I'm also frustrated by the lack of information on the Radio " website. In fact, I've been trying to find out when the 2009 program is - without any luck - I even sent the CBC an email two weeks ago, without any reply. Can someone help me?

Anonymous -- this year (2009) it's on December 20th. Info up on the CBC website on that date, or shortly before that date. Hope that helps, Li

Li, thank you for the information you posted. It's December 17th, and I cannot find any information on the Choral Concert website about Sunday's Joy to the World. I just heard the ad on CBC 2, but would like to know which countries participate, what time, etc. It would be really helpful to have this info on advance as in Howard Dick's times - it was always posted a few weeks in advance...

My apologies to you both, I did not see your comments until today (Dec. 23). It seems that the automatic sending of e-mails to notify me of new comments on this site seems to be broken. I've posted them now, but I think it's too late. Sorry!
